The theme of this symposium, “Population and Sustainable Development,” is a very timely topic, as the member countries of the United Nations are currently on a mission towards “a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.” In order to achieve sustainable development, it is important to study and well identify the population dynamics and various issues emerging from these. In this case, demographic research plays a vital role in identifying the characteristics, trends, and patterns of populations, disclosing their issues and needs, and ultimately contributing to policy-making, planning, and development.
